Calcium Ascorbate do You Need More in Your Diet

This is a form of vitamin C used to treat people with vitamin C deficiencies. Most of us get plenty of vitamin c in our diet but not all of us and certainly not all the time, especially with our hectic lifestyles in this modern time. Those deficiencies can lead to a condition that we have all heard of Scurvy. Sailors long ago usually had this condition and its symptoms are

Rash
Muscle weakness
Joint pain
Tiredness
Tooth loss

Vitamin C may also be used with other vitamins for macular degeneration an eye condition.

If you have any of the above symptoms discuss this with your doctor to see if you need to add calcium ascorbate to supplement your diet in order to get enough vitamin c.
Side effects

Diarrhea
Constipation
Nausea
Vomiting
Abdominal cramps/pain
Heartburn

While most people never have any side effects from calcium ascorbate, it is possible. More severe side effects that you could have, and should discontinue use and immediately seek medical attention for are

painful urination
pink/bloody urine
severe allergic reaction that causes swelling of throat or tongue making breathing difficult, dizziness, rash and itching

Drug interactions

Calcium ascorbate can interact with the following medications

antibiotics
thyroid medications
osteoporosis medications

It is always best to discuss any medications you are currently taking with a health care provider or pharmacists before adding any new supplement or medication.
Overdose

Taking more than 2,000 milligrams of vitamin C can cause diarrhea and increase your risk for kidney stones. Don’t get more than the tolerable upper intake level for calcium of 2,500 milligrams per day. Excessive calcium can cause you to absorb less zinc and iron and may also cause kidney problems, constipation and calcification of your organs.

So while it can be beneficial to take Calcium ascorbate supplements, you also need to use caution when it comes to interactions with other drugs and taking too much of it to the point of risk of kidney stones and other kidney issues, constipations, and calcifications of your organs.
