The Ponoplayer- What’s all the Hype about Anyway?
There are a few reasons why the Ponoplayer ain’t no ordinary mp3 player. The mastermind behind the new technology is Neil Young who we all know for the song “Heart of gold.” Got you, no, none of us know that song you old toad.
But, on a more serious note, described by some as the future of audio, this high-res portable music player does have quite a few things going for it and the following lines are going to describe exactly what they are.
The Sound
While we can easily dissect this Toblerone-shaped mp3 player from any angle, we’ll start off with the reason why we’re all making it such a big deal, the sound. This is one area where the Ponoplayer has really hit the mark. According to recent technology news, you can really hear the sound’s high quality whether you’re using cheap or high-end headphones. Apart from that there are audio checks and balances to make sure you have control over the sound you hear, which is genuinely extraordinary.
The Design
The Ponoplayer and Marilyn Manson have one thing in common. They both sound incredible, but are frightful to look at. Now don’t get us wrong. The yellow triangular casing means that the mp3 player sites firmly in your hand, but sliding it into your skinny jeans might raise a few eyebrows. But, that’s a good thing huh fellas!
The Ponoplayer offers not one but two headphone sockets which are placed on top along with a trapdoor housing the 64GB internal memory and an SD card slot. While the HD card does boost its memory as compared to your regular run of the mill smartphone but the high resolution audio files means that you’re staring at audio file sizes that are upwards of around 20 times the size of any regular song that is downloaded from iTunes. This is one of the areas that Ponoplayer users will have to compromise in, but on the flipside, the Ponoplayer does offer the largest collection of music in all of its glory, via the PonoMusic Store. And according to technology magazines, there’s also a micro USB slot at the bottom for charging and connecting your computer to transfer files.
Screen and Controls
While we are yet to see an interface which compares to a smartphone, the Ponoplayer still does pretty well with three simple buttons for navigation and volume, and a smooth touchscreen display.
Just so you know, the Ponoplayer was one of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns which generated $6,225,354, and does not look as ridiculous as it sounds. In the end, when it comes to PMPs or Portable Music Players, the Ponoplayer does offer a lot more than the other devices available in the market.
